In het land van Heusden en Altena ligt het dorpje Meeuwen. Hier staat een kasteel dat rond 1350 dateert. Een kerk met een toren die stamt uit de eerste helft van de 14e eeuw en ook de Witte Molen, een grondzeiler uit 1740. In het laatste oorlogsjaar is Meeuwen grotendeels verwoest, maar na de oorlog weer opgebouwd.
In dit dorp is Adri Burghout (1959) opgegroeid en woont er nog steeds in zijn ouderlijk huis. Als kind voelde hij zich sterk aangetrokken door de techniek. Vooral de zestiger jaren met de rond het dorp laag over de velden scherende Fokker S-11’jes hebben een onuitwisbare indruk achtergelaten. Gestimuleerd door het luchtvaartenthousiasme van zijn vader resulteerde dit al vroeg in tekeningen van vliegtuigen. Later kwam daar belangstelling voor de maritieme wereld bij. Hij werd niet alleen gegrepen door de wonderlijke techniek. Het was ook de setting waar binnen dit alles plaats heeft. Vooral nog weer later, kreeg de achtergrond, het alles overheersende decor van het weer met zijn eigen dynamiek sterke aandacht. Met zijn werken poogt hij nog steeds weer te geven waar harmonie is tussen schepping en techniek, omdat beide onderwerpen hem bovenmate boeien. Adri heeft geen opleidingen genoten, maar oefent al z’n hele leven lang, zoals hij zelf zegt.
Hij werkt als freelance illustrator van voornamelijk jeugdboeken en is daarnaast ook auteur van een groeiend aantal titels. Zijn opdrachtgevers zijn uitgeverijen als Den Hertog, De Banier, Mes, Om Sions Wil en Koster, maar ook voor de John Bunyan Stichting maakt hij veel illustraties. Zo nu en dan schildert hij een doek in opdracht. Z’n interesses zijn vaak terug te vinden in potlood, olieverf of tekst. Vooral de Zwitserse Alpen zijn een graag gebruikt decor. Werken van Adri gingen naar de Vliegend Museum Seppe, de Koninkijke Luchtmacht, de KNRM, Z.M. Koning Willem – Alexander, verzamelaars Karel Bos (BOSAL) en Henk Burghout, enz..

In the land of Heusden and Altena a small village is located, called Meeuwen. There‘s a castle that dates back to around 1350. A church with a tower dating from the first half of the 14th century and the White Mill, a corn mill from 1740. In the last World War II  years, Meeuwen has been destroyed largery, but was rebuilt after the war.                                                                                           Adri Burghout (1959) grew up in this village and still lives in his childhood home. As a child he felt strongly attracted by technology. Especially the sixties with the low over the fields  shearing Fokker S-11’s left an indelible impression. He was stimulated  in the aviation enthusiasm by his father. This resulted in early drawings of airplanes. Later on he got  interested in the maritime world too. He was not only fascinated by the wonderful technology. It was also the setting off all. Especially the overriding decor with clouds etc. with its own dynamics strong attention. With his work he still tries to show harmony between creation and technology, because both subjects fascinate him beyond measure. Adri  received no education, but he exercises his whole life already, as he says.  He works as a freelance illustrator of primarily children’s books and is also author of a growing number of titles. His clients include publishers such as Den Hertog, De Banier, Mes, Om Sions Wil, Koster, etc. But also for the John Bunyan Foundation he makes a lot of illustrations. Occasionally he paints a canvas on commission. His interests are often found in pencil, oil or text. Especially the Swiss Alps  he loves as a decor. His works went to the Flying Museum Seppe, the Royal Dutch Air Force, KNRM, Z.M. King Willem – Alexander, collectors Karel Bos (Bosal) and Henk Burghout, etc ..
